Her rescue wasn’t urgent, but it changed everything for her future
Alda’s story is a little different from our usual rescues. She didn’t come to us as an emergency — in fact, she was a surprise. A supporter spotted her for sale with poor-quality photos at a very low price, wanting to help her before she ended up in the wrong circle of riders, sadly common on the island. When she arrived, she looked surprisingly well and our vets don’t believe she’s the 20 years stated on her passport.
While we usually focus on urgent rescues, Alda’s case had its own urgency due to the situation with her previous owners, so it was fortunate she came here, just for different reasons.
Since arriving, Alda has settled into sanctuary life nicely. Though she may not have had a traumatic past like a lot of our rescues, she now has a bright future ahead with freedom, trust and empathy. Here, she’s learning what it means to truly belong — no pressure, no fear, no expectations. Just open spaces, gentle care, and the freedom to simply be herself. Watching her relax and connect with her new companions has been a quiet reminder that rescue isn’t always about saving from danger — sometimes, it’s about offering safety before it’s ever needed.
Alda’s story may have begun differently, but it’s no less important. Every horse deserves the chance to live in peace, and we’re so glad she found hers with us.
