Independent, magnificent, and utterly unforgettable – our finca lion has claimed his throne
Meet Flloyd – our resident lion. Flloyd may look like he stepped straight out of a wildlife documentary, but this magnificent “lion” is, in fact, a Maine Coon. He arrived at the sanctuary after a caring lady, who adored him dearly, found herself unable to continue caring for her cats due to personal circumstances. After a long, emotional search for the right home, she was guided toward Emma, knowing her reputation, her mission, and her unconditional care for every animal that enters the sanctuary. She felt certain that this was the place where Flloyd could live his life exactly as he wished.
Flloyd arrived with his sister Poppy, who has since bonded deeply with our assistant manager and now lives happily by her side. Flloyd, however… prefers independence. He is admired by absolutely everyone — from a respectful distance. With his enormous mane, piercing stare, and regal posture, it’s easy to see why visitors, volunteers, and even the other animals stop to marvel at him. But Flloyd has standards -very high standards. Only a select few earn the privilege of offering him a gentle stroke or two, and cuddles are strictly on his terms (which usually means ‘not today’).
Most days, you’ll find him perched proudly on the roof of the Kindergarten, overlooking his kingdom, watching the children play, and silently judging everyone below. Flloyd is large, elegant, and utterly magnificent — a true sanctuary legend whose presence fascinates everyone who crosses his path. A lion in spirit, a Maine Coon in species, and a king in his own mind.
