After years of dreaming, planning, and hoping, we finally have permission to build our very own Equine Vet Clinic. Even better? Our new full-time vet has arrived on the island, ready to start changing lives.
Now, all we need is the equipment to make it possible!
That’s why we’re launching one of the biggest campaigns in our history — to raise €100,000 and build Tenerife Animal Sanctuary’s first ever dedicated Equine Rescue Clinic.
This is more than a project. It’s the second-biggest dream we’ve ever worked towards (after opening the sanctuary itself!). And when it’s built, it will mean that for the first time, no horse has to wait in pain for emergency care, we’ll be able to diagnose problems faster and more accurately meaning that every rescue gets the treatment and dignity they deserve, right here at home on the finca!

Meet Our New Vet: Stephanie!
We’re over the moon to welcome Dr. Stephanie Dorst-Rometsch to our team as our full-time equine vet!
Stephanie is from Germany, married with two kids, and has a dog called Tinka and two rabbits. She first visited the Finca while on holiday with her children and instantly fell in love. Last week, she officially joined us as part of the team — lucky us!
She has trained and worked in equine clinics around the world — from Germany to Chile, Australia, and the USA — bringing huge experience in equine medicine, gestation, and emergency care.

“I have seen truly horrible things while working as a vet here on the island. It is an incredibly good thing that there is a place like Tenerife Animal Sanctuary to help all the horses that have suffered. I am so excited to be here finally and be a part of that change.”

And she won’t be alone! We’re also so grateful to have Tash, our wonderful General Veterinary Staff, on site too. Tash came a few months ago with her daughter Effie, and has been an absolute hero — from treating ducklings to dogs, to helping volunteers with their own animals, and even running animal care workshops.
Now, with Stephanie and Tash working side by side, we finally have a full team of veterinary staff caring for every creature on the Finca.
What’s Next: The Container & Clinic!
This campaign has already started with a bang — thanks to you, we’ve raised €3,000 in the first few weeks towards our €100,000 goal! (If we do that just 30 more times, we’re there ).
With Stephanie now here, our next big focus is on creating a practical, secure place for her to work, to store medicine and and equipment and make the necessary examinations! We’re already looking at some options but this will be roughly around €4000 to have something fit for what we need!
So we have launched our next phase of the campaign!

Of course we know containers aren’t made of bricks — but think of this as a virtual brick! Our Finca has been built by thousands of people over the years, each putting in a little piece to make something incredible. By “buying a virtual brick” for just €20, you’ll be part of building our new secure clinic container — a space that will protect vital medicines, store life-saving equipment, and give our new vet Stephanie a practical place to carry out examinations and treatments.
If 200 people each give €20, we’ve reached our €4,000 goal — and your brick will be part of a loving legacy that will last for years to come (even if it’s really made of metals and bolts.

Why does the clinic matter? Dory’s Story
Do you remember Dory? She arrived in a heartbreaking condition, carrying the scars of years of neglect. With a broken jaw, a blind infected eye, and a frail body, she still had the strongest will to live. Volunteers stayed by her side day and night, ensuring she was never alone.

A HUGE thank you goes out to Simon, a past volunteer who has generously donated to purchase our first sling. Thanks to Simon, we’ll be able to give immediate relief and support to horses who arrive weak, injured, or recovering from surgery.
